postheadericon Parking Your Car in Japan

With a population of vehicles roughly around 78 million and a very limited and over-cramped parking space, owning a car in Japan is pretty much easier than finding a decent and economical parking spot. Apartment houses and residential buildings commonly suffice their parking needs with parking lots, some occupying even up to the ground level of the buildings. Some of these buildings have parking outdoors. By allowing the parking of one car below the ground level and one on the other on the ground level, elevator parking has proved too helpful for accommodating twice the number of cars in a limited space.

Whatsoever, Parking in Japan is outlined in two ways .The Road Traffic Act states the first to be when a driver stays with the car, continuously for around 5 or more minutes, waiting for goods or people or in some cases, dealing with an accident and the second way would be when the driver has to leave the car and has to stay away for a while. In broad terms, On-Street Parking and Off-Street Parking are the two foremost ways of parking in Japan.  It is the generally the responsibility of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure,
Transport and Tourism (MLIT) to regulate the several types of parking. In major cities, On-street parking is generally prohibited, with some exceptions like On-street Parking Space. Set in the Parking Space Development Zone, the charges here are almost the same as the Off- street parking. The local government administrates these spaces, collecting revenues depending upon the duration of your parking. Also, On-street parking could be done at Parking Meter/Parking Ticket Machines, set along the roads. Here, the parking time is limited to 40 or 60 minutes, expiring of which, a fine is imposed on the user as a violation of parking rule.
Also, one can always opt for an option for a private, off-street parking space. One way would be  tsukigime ch?sha, that is,  to rent a land property or a lot from the owner for parking purpose, under a law abiding contact, wherein the borrower has the right to occupy the land and the owner has no right to move the vehicle without the borrower’s permission.
This is generally on a monthly basis. Other way would be, to allow a Parking Manager to handle your parking for you at a Parking space. If this option also does not suit you, then a Coin-operated Parking Space is the answer.
It is also essential to learn that not everywhere in Japan, you face the same crisis regarding the parking spaces. In the rural parts of the country, one can find ample spaces for your car. On the outskirts of large cities, people usually have a parking at their homes or somewhat nearby, like built-in shelters or garages.
